MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

The Magnacoustics MagnaMuff+ headset is an essential upgrade for modern MRI sound systems, delivering superior noise reduction of 26 SNR dB. Engineered for high-noise environments like MRI suites, it protects patient hearing and minimizes auditory distractions, promoting comfort and focus throughout procedures.

Its ergonomic, over-ear design offers a secure, comfortable fit for extended use, while maintaining excellent audio clarity for clear communication between patients and technologists. This contributes to smoother workflows and a more positive patient experience.

The MagnaMuff+ is built to meet the rigorous demands of medical professionals. It features a durable, latex-free construction and comes with a male 2-prong adapter compatible with most audio systems. For Siemens MRI systems, it’s also available with TIM and TIM4G audio connectors. The headset is compatible with SC-100 Sanitary Covers for improved hygiene during repeated use.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes the MagnaMuff Headset effective for MRI patient noise protection?

The MagnaMuff Headset provides 26 SNR dB of sound reduction, helping shield patients from high acoustic levels produced by MRI scanners. Its over-ear design seals comfortably around the ears without pressure points, maintaining both hearing protection and audio clarity for patient communication or music playback. This helps reduce anxiety, limit motion during scans, and improve overall image quality — a clear advantage in busy MRI environments.

2. Which MRI systems is the MagnaMuff Headset compatible with?

The headset is approved by GE Healthcare and works seamlessly with most MRI audio systems, including models from Siemens that use TIM or TIM4G connectors. It features a two-prong male adapter for standard setups and optional tubing lengths for flexibility. Because it’s engineered specifically for use in MRI environments, it maintains reliable performance without introducing magnetic interference or signal distortion.

3. How should the MagnaMuff Headset be cleaned and maintained between patients?

After each use, technologists should wipe the headset with approved non-alcohol, non-abrasive disinfectants and replace the SC-100 Sanitary Covers to maintain hygiene. Inspect tubing and connectors regularly for wear or residue buildup. The headset’s durable, latex-free construction is designed for long-term clinical use, making routine cleaning quick and compliant with infection-control standards.

4. Is the MagnaMuff Headset reusable between patients?

It’s fully reusable and holds up well to routine disinfecting with standard healthcare wipe-down products approved for plastics and foams. Most departments pair it with disposable sanitary covers to keep turnaround quick between exams and maintain consistent infection control.
