MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes the MagnaMuff Ultra different from standard MRI headsets?

The MagnaMuff Ultra Headset offers an upgraded 28 dB signal-to-noise reduction (SNR) and a lightweight, fully non-magnetic build designed specifically for MRI use. It provides a more secure, comfortable fit with an adjustable headband, which helps patients stay still and relaxed during long scans. The Ultra model also features improved acoustic performance for clearer audio communication without adding bulk inside the coil area.

2. Is the MagnaMuff Ultra Headset compatible with Siemens and GE MRI systems?

Yes. The MagnaMuff Ultra is available with multiple connector options to integrate smoothly with Siemens TIM and TIM4G audio systems, as well as standard two-prong connections for GE and other MRI platforms. This flexibility makes it easy for facilities operating multiple scanner types to maintain consistent patient comfort and communication quality across all suites.

3. How do you clean and maintain the MagnaMuff Ultra for daily clinical use?

The headset’s smooth, medical-grade surfaces are designed for quick disinfection using non-abrasive, hospital-approved cleaning solutions. For hygiene between patients, techs can apply SC-100 sanitary covers over the ear cushions and replace them after each use. The non-magnetic materials and durable construction hold up to frequent cleaning cycles, making the Ultra a dependable choice for high-volume imaging centers.

4. Can the MagnaMuff Ultra be worn inside the bore with all coil types?

Yes. The Ultra uses non-magnetic, non-conductive materials, so it’s safe for continuous use in Zone IV and throughout active imaging. Its shape stays clear of most head and neuro coils, and techs often use it when they need stronger noise reduction without sacrificing coil proximity.
