MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the 22° Wedge approved for use in MRI environments?

Yes. The 22° Wedge is made from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional, allowing safe use in MRI Zones III and IV, including the scan room at 1.5T and 3T. It’s engineered to stay stable during imaging and maintain clear, artifact-free images.

2. What is the 22° Wedge used for in MRI positioning?

This wedge helps elevate and support patients at a 22-degree incline, providing controlled positioning for improved image consistency and patient comfort. It’s commonly used for musculoskeletal, spine, and upper body studies, helping technologists maintain repeatable, accurate setups across exams.

3. How does the 22° angle differ from other MRI positioning wedges?

The 22-degree incline offers a moderate lift, making it useful when you need more elevation than a 15° or 18° wedge but less than a 27° model. It strikes a good balance between comfort and precision, especially when alignment of the spine or shoulders is key to image quality.

4. Can this wedge be used for imaging other than MRI?

Yes. The 22° Wedge is also suitable for CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, and general positioning. Its lightweight, non-metallic build allows it to move easily between rooms while staying safe for use near imaging magnets and sensitive equipment.
