MR Unsafe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does an Arms Up CT Positioner do, and when is it most useful?

An Arms Up CT Positioner helps keep a patient’s arms elevated and stable during chest, abdominal, and trauma CT exams. This reduces motion, keeps the arms out of the scan field, and helps techs get consistent, artifact-free images. Facilities that see a lot of ER, oncology, or bariatric patients often rely on dedicated supports because they improve positioning speed and reduce repeat scans.

2. Is this positioner comfortable and secure enough for longer CT protocols?

Yes — it’s designed to support the arms in a natural, relaxed position so patients don’t have to “hold themselves up.” The cradle creates a stable anchor point that limits drift or sliding during the exam. This is especially helpful for patients who are weak, anxious, or unable to keep their arms raised on their own.

3. Is the Arms Up CT Positioner easy to clean between patients?

The surface is made for quick, routine cleaning with standard hospital disinfectants. It wipes down smoothly without absorbing fluids or breaking down from heavy use. Most facilities use it because it speeds up turnover and holds up well in high-volume CT rooms.
