MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the Knee Arthrography Block be used safely in MRI environments?

Yes. The Knee Arthrography Block is constructed from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials that meet ASTM F2503 standards for MR Conditional use. It can remain in MRI Zones III and IV without causing image artifacts or safety issues. Always confirm product labeling and verify use within approved MRI conditions—commonly 1.5 T or 3 T field strengths.

2. How does the Knee Arthrography Block improve image accuracy during procedures?

The block helps maintain stable knee positioning during contrast-enhanced imaging, reducing unwanted motion that can compromise image clarity. Its ergonomic design supports the joint at the correct angle for arthrography, helping radiologists achieve consistent and accurate visualization of ligaments, cartilage, and surrounding tissue.

3. What imaging modalities can the Knee Arthrography Block be used with?

This positioning aid is suitable for a range of imaging applications including MRI, CT, and General Positioning. It provides reliable support during arthrograms, injections, and diagnostic scans. Its lightweight design makes it easy to position and transport between imaging suites, helping improve workflow efficiency.

4. How does this block differ from standard MRI knee supports?

Unlike general knee pads or wedges, this block is specifically designed for arthrographic procedures, providing firm immobilization and the precise joint elevation needed for injection and imaging accuracy. It’s ideal for facilities performing MRI-guided or CT-guided arthrograms and can be paired with other MRI Med positioning aids for comprehensive lower-extremity support.
