MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Oblique Finger Block approved for use in MRI environments?

Yes. The Oblique Finger Block is made from non-conductive, non-metallic materials that meet ASTM F2503 labeling requirements for MR Conditional use. It can be safely positioned in MRI Zones III and IV, including inside the bore, when used under standard MRI conditions at 1.5 T or 3 T. Always verify the product label for the exact field strength and setup conditions before use.

2. What is the Oblique Finger Block used for in MRI imaging?

This block is designed to position the patient’s hand and fingers in an oblique orientation, allowing radiologists to capture clear, detailed views of joint and tendon structures. It helps minimize motion, reduce artifacts, and improve diagnostic accuracy—especially for hand, wrist, and finger studies that require precise anatomical alignment.

3. Can the Oblique Finger Block be used for both right and left hand imaging?

Yes. The dual-orientation design supports both right and left hand positioning with a single block. This makes it an efficient and cost-effective solution for imaging departments, simplifying setup and reducing the need for multiple dedicated supports.

4. How does the Oblique Finger Block compare to standard MRI hand supports?

Unlike flat or single-angle supports, this block provides precise oblique positioning that aligns the hand naturally while keeping the fingers stable. It enhances image consistency across multiple scans and integrates easily with other MRI Med positioning aids, offering a complete solution for musculoskeletal imaging setups.
