MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the Bolster, Angular be used safely inside the MRI room?

Yes. The Bolster, Angular is made from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional, meaning it’s designed for safe use in MRI Zones III and IV, including inside the scan room at 1.5T and 3T. Always confirm your scanner’s field strength and facility guidelines before use.

2. What is the Bolster, Angular used for during imaging?

This positioning aid provides stable angular support that helps align the patient’s body for accurate and repeatable imaging. It’s ideal for MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound procedures, especially when technicians need to maintain a consistent angle for comfort or image clarity.

3. What sizes and material options are available?

The Bolster, Angular is available in three durable material types — Uncoated Foam (PA-104), Ultrafoam (PA-109), and ScanCoat Black (PA-108) — all sized 21"L × 12.5"W × 7.25"H. Each material offers different levels of surface protection and durability to suit specific imaging workflows or cleaning preferences.

4. How does the Bolster, Angular compare to other MRI positioning aids?

Compared to flat pads or standard wedges, the Bolster, Angular provides a more defined angle that helps maintain precise body positioning for spine, shoulder, and lower-extremity imaging. Its ergonomic design and lightweight build make it easy to reposition quickly between patients, improving workflow efficiency.
