MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Cardiac boards provide a robust, flat surface designed specifically to support emergency medical procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). These essential medical tools are crafted to ensure maximum stability and functionality during critical situations, enabling healthcare professionals to perform life-saving procedures with precision and efficiency. Engineered for compatibility with various MRI equipment, these boards are indispensable accessories in medical facilities requiring comprehensive solutions for patient care.

Each cardiac board features two molded hand slots and two ergonomic thumb holes, making them easy to handle and store when not in use. The included mounting brackets allow convenient and secure placement, ensuring the boards are readily accessible during emergencies. Ideal for integration into hospitals, imaging centers, and other facilities utilizing MRI products, these cardiac boards enhance the readiness and capability of professional medical environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Cardiac Board MR Conditional and safe for MRI environments?

Yes. The Cardiac Board and Mounting Brackets are MR Conditional, designed and tested for use in MRI environments up to 3 Tesla, following ASTM F2503 labeling standards. The non-ferrous construction minimizes magnetic attraction, allowing safe use in MRI Zones III and IV. This ensures the board can remain accessible for emergency procedures without compromising patient or staff safety.

What is the purpose of the Cardiac Board in an MRI setting?

The cardiac board provides a stable, flat surface for performing CPR or other emergency procedures when a patient experiences cardiac arrest in the MRI suite. It’s designed to fit securely behind or alongside an MRI-compatible stretcher or cart using the included mounting brackets, so staff can respond immediately without delay.

What materials are used, and how do they support MRI compatibility?

Each board is made from a durable, non-ferrous polymer that resists bending and supports full patient weight during CPR. The mounting brackets are constructed from low-ferrous stainless steel or aluminum, ensuring magnetic safety while maintaining strength and longevity. Both components can be cleaned easily with MRI-approved hospital disinfectants.

How do the mounting brackets work with MRI carts and equipment?

The brackets attach securely to the side or rear of MR Conditional emergency and anesthesia carts, keeping the cardiac board readily available without interfering with the cart’s normal function. When needed, staff can quickly remove the board using the built-in hand slots to position it under the patient within seconds.

What are the cleaning and maintenance recommendations for MRI use?

Clean the cardiac board and brackets with non-corrosive, hospital-grade disinfectants approved for MRI suites. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasives that could damage the polymer surface. Check the brackets periodically to ensure they remain tight and corrosion-free, and confirm that the board slides smoothly in and out of its mount for reliable emergency readiness.
