MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do Child MediGoggles help improve scan quality and patient cooperation in MRI?

These goggles make a big difference in pediatric imaging by letting children see clearly without metal frames that could interfere with the scan. The adjustable, lightweight fit helps young patients stay calm and still, which reduces motion artifacts and repeat scans. By providing familiar vision correction inside the MRI bore, the goggles help technologists complete studies more efficiently while improving overall image quality.

2. Can the MediGoggles be used across multiple MRI systems or only for a specific field strength?

They’re engineered for universal MRI suite use, including 1.5T and 3T scanners, and contain no metallic or conductive materials. Facilities can use them safely across research and clinical scanners without worrying about magnetic attraction or distortion. Because of their non-metallic construction, they can remain with the patient during active scanning and are also suitable for fMRI and related imaging setups.

3. How should staff manage lens changes and cleaning between pediatric sessions?

Each lens is marked by diopter strength in 0.5 increments for fast identification. Technologists can easily swap lenses without tools, reducing turnaround time between patients. For cleaning, the goggles can be wiped with hospital-grade disinfectants or mild soap and water, since the all-plastic build tolerates frequent sanitation. This keeps them hygienic and ready for repeated use in busy MRI environments.
