MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the MRI safety status of Cleartrace™ 2 Electrodes?

Cleartrace™ 2 Electrodes are MR Safe, meaning they contain no magnetic or conductive materials and pose no known hazards in any MRI environment, including inside the bore (Zone IV). They can be used confidently during MRI procedures without introducing image distortion or magnetic interference. Their radiolucent design also makes them suitable for X-ray and other imaging modalities, so facilities can standardize on one electrode type across multiple departments.

2. How do Cleartrace™ 2 Electrodes support long-term MRI patient monitoring?

These electrodes are built for extended wear and stability. The square profile helps prevent edge lift or buckling, even on curved skin surfaces, while the gentle adhesive maintains secure placement for long-term studies or serial scans. The flexible construction conforms naturally to the patient’s body, reducing irritation and improving comfort during prolonged monitoring. That reliability is especially useful for MRI environments where motion artifacts and repositioning can compromise signal quality.

3. What sizes and packaging options are available for Cleartrace™ 2 Electrodes?

Each electrode measures 2 inches across and is available in several convenient configurations—1, 3, 5, or 30 per card, with 600 electrodes per case. This makes it easy for MRI and radiology teams to stock the right quantity for their workflow, from daily single-patient monitoring to high-volume hospital use. The packaging keeps the adhesive and gel fresh, supporting consistent performance and easy restocking for busy imaging departments.

4. Are Cleartrace™ 2 Electrodes suitable when a patient needs X-ray before or after their MRI exam?

Yes. These electrodes use radiotranslucent materials, so they don’t interfere with X-ray imaging. That’s useful in trauma, inpatient, and hybrid imaging workflows where patients may need chest films, line checks, or follow-up imaging without stopping to remove and reapply ECG electrodes. Keeping the same set on the patient streamlines transitions between MRI, X-ray, and other modalities while preserving good signal quality.
