MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are the DU-O-VAC PLUS Collection Canisters safe to use around MRI equipment?

Yes. These collection canisters are engineered for use in MRI environments and are made from non-magnetic, impact-resistant plastic that ensures safety around powerful magnets. They integrate seamlessly with the DU-O-VAC PLUS suction system, maintaining reliable waste collection without interfering with imaging equipment. Their built-in hydrophobic filter prevents backflow and contamination, making them ideal for MRI Zones III and IV where both performance and magnetic safety are required.

2. How do these collection canisters support infection control and system reliability?

Each canister includes a hydrophobic filter and positive-seal design that prevents liquid overflow and airborne contamination, protecting both staff and equipment. The 500 mL capacity provides efficient waste handling for daily MRI or patient monitoring procedures. Because they’re single-use and packaged in boxes of 10, they simplify turnover, reduce cross-contamination risk, and help maintain compliance with hospital infection control protocols — keeping your suction system clean and operational at all times.

3. Are these replacement canisters compatible with existing DU-O-VAC PLUS setups?

Yes. These canisters are specifically designed for DU-O-VAC PLUS units, ensuring a secure fit and dependable performance without modification. The standard hose and port connections make installation quick and straightforward, allowing facilities to keep their vacuum systems running efficiently. With a box of 10 replacement canisters, MRI departments can stay stocked and avoid workflow interruptions — an essential advantage in high-volume imaging centers or hospital settings.
