MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are these EmpowerMR syringe kits fully compatible with the Bracco EmpowerMR injector system used in MRI suites?

A common search is “EmpowerMR syringe compatibility,” and these kits match the OEM 017356 design that the EmpowerMR injector expects. The syringes load cleanly, the tubing and spike assemblies connect without leaks, and the injector recognizes the setup without flow-rate or priming errors. If your site uses both EmpowerMR and older Bracco injectors, or you’re not certain which version you have, we can confirm compatibility before ordering so you avoid downtime at the injector head.

2. Can these Bracco EmpowerMR syringes be used safely at the injector head inside a 1.5T or 3T MRI room?

These syringe kits are non-metallic supplies meant to be installed directly on the EmpowerMR injector, which typically operates in the MRI scan room. They’re passive, single-use components, so they don’t carry their own MR safety designation; however, they’re routinely used at both 1.5T and 3T when handled according to standard injector workflow. Most facilities store the kits in clean prep zones, load them at the injector head, and use them during live contrast injection without altering their room-safety procedures.

3. How do these OEM-equivalent 017356 syringe kits compare to generic MRI injector syringes for EmpowerMR systems?

MRI departments usually compare syringe options based on priming reliability, injector recognition, and stability during high-flow contrast injections. These 017356-equivalent kits are built to the tolerances the EmpowerMR system is calibrated for, so they typically produce smoother priming, fewer nuisance alarms, and more predictable timing during contrast delivery. With generics, small differences in spike geometry or tubing stiffness can introduce micro-bubbles or pressure irregularities. For high-volume MRI sites focused on consistent image quality, sticking with OEM-equivalent EmpowerMR kits helps keep injector performance steady across body, neuro, and vascular protocols.
