MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the MRI safety status of the Deluxe Kit?

The Deluxe Kit is made from non-conductive, non-magnetic materials and labeled MR Conditional under ASTM F2503. It is designed for safe use in MRI Zones III and IV, including inside the scanner room, when used under the specified MRI conditions. The materials have been evaluated for displacement force, torque, and RF heating at 1.5 T and 3 T field strengths.

2. What types of imaging procedures can the Deluxe Kit support?

This 12-piece positioning set is suitable for MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine procedures. The variety of wedges, discs, and pads allows for patient alignment, pressure relief, and stabilization across multiple body regions. Facilities often use it for spine, extremity, and general positioning where maintaining consistent anatomical support improves scan quality and reduces motion artifacts.

3. How is the Deluxe Kit typically used during MRI exams?

Each component in the kit serves a specific role in patient positioning and comfort. Technologists can combine wedges and pads to achieve the desired angle or elevation for the area being scanned. By maintaining steady alignment and minimizing patient movement, the kit helps ensure clearer, more reproducible MRI images—especially for longer or higher-resolution studies.

4. How does the Deluxe Kit differ from smaller MRI positioning kits?

The Deluxe Kit provides a broader range of support options than standard positioning sets. With 12 different components—including multiple wedges, discs, and a full-length table pad—it offers more flexibility for patient setup across various exam types. This allows imaging teams to standardize positioning protocols, enhance patient comfort, and maintain consistent diagnostic image quality across modalities.
