MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Dreamies T-M Advanced Infant MRI Hearing Protection is designed to provide essential hearing protection for infants undergoing MRI procedures. This advanced solution ensures the comfort and safety of young patients during scans by effectively shielding their delicate hearing from high-decibel noise levels commonly produced by MRI equipment.

Engineered specifically for use in MRI environments, this product is meticulously crafted to maintain compliance with rigorous safety and functional standards. The lightweight, ergonomic design ensures a secure and gentle fit for infants, while the high-quality materials provide optimal performance. Dreamies T-M Hearing Protection is an indispensable addition to any healthcare facility's range of MRI products, offering reliable noise reduction while prioritizing infant comfort and care.

Extra Small (XS) size is for infants with an occipitofrontal head circumference of 23 to 27 cm.

Features:

  • 27 dB overall sound attenuation
  • MR Safe
  • Blocks broad-spectrum MRI noise
  • Progressive sizing (XS, S, M, LG, XL) for head circumference from 23-48 cm
  • Adjustable band for securing earcups
  • Easy to use
  • Color may vary
  • Reuseable by the same patient

Please note: Pricing is for each unit. DREAMIES T-M are tested for short-term use (for up to three 3 consecutive hours) on infants during air or ground hospital transport, or an MRI examination to provide reduction of sound reaching the ears. DREAMIES T-M are biocompatible, single patient use only and are not intended to be cleaned or disinfected.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How effective are Dreamies T-M earcups at reducing MRI noise for infants?

Dreamies T-M provides 27 dB of sound attenuation, which gives solid protection against the high-decibel gradient and RF noise inside the MRI room. They’re built specifically for MRI use, so they reduce the broad-spectrum noise infants are exposed to during scans while staying lightweight and gentle on small heads.

2. What size should I choose for infants, and how do I make sure the fit is secure during an MRI scan?

Sizing is based on occipitofrontal head circumference. The XS size fits infants 23–27 cm, and the adjustable band helps keep the earcups in place during positioning, transport, and scanning. The design is soft, ergonomic, and shaped to stay put even when infants move, which helps maintain consistent noise protection throughout the exam.

3. Are Dreamies T-M safe to use in MRI Zones III and IV, and are they considered single-patient use?

Yes. Dreamies T-M are MR Safe, so they can be used right up to the bore without risk of magnetic interaction. They’re also single-patient use, tested for short-term wear (up to three consecutive hours), and not intended to be cleaned or disinfected. This helps facilities maintain infection-control standards while ensuring reliable performance for each individual infant.
