MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the Child AP-PA Head Holder be used inside the MRI suite?

Yes. The Child AP-PA Head Holder is made from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and is MR Conditional for use in MRI Zones III and IV, including the scan room at 1.5T and 3T. It’s engineered to remain stable and safe under standard MRI operating conditions without causing image distortion or magnetic interference.

2. What is the Child AP-PA Head Holder used for?

This holder is designed for pediatric MRI procedures where precise head alignment in anteroposterior (AP) or posteroanterior (PA) positions is needed. It helps maintain stillness and proper orientation, reducing motion artifacts and supporting high-quality imaging results in children who require extra stability and comfort.

3. How does the Child AP-PA Head Holder improve image accuracy?

By keeping the child’s head securely positioned, the holder reduces involuntary movement and maintains consistent scan geometry, which is critical for brain and head imaging. Consistent positioning also minimizes the need for repeat scans, saving time and improving workflow efficiency for technologists.

4. Can this head holder be used for other imaging types besides MRI?

Yes. It’s also suitable for CT, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound applications. The lightweight build and easy-to-clean surface make it a versatile tool across imaging departments, helping maintain continuity in positioning and patient comfort between modalities.
