MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are Liquimark 10mm Square Skin Markers approved for use in MRI environments?

Yes. Liquimark MRI Skin Markers are made from non-metallic, non-conductive, latex-free materials and are MR Conditional for use at 1.5T and 3T. They can safely remain on the patient’s skin during active scanning without distorting images or creating magnetic interference.

2. What are Liquimark 10mm Square Markers typically used for in MRI?

These 10mm square skin markers are designed for orthopedic and pediatric imaging where smaller, precisely defined markers are needed. They help technologists identify anatomical landmarks, scar tissue, or areas of interest with clear, localized visibility on MRI scans, without affecting adjacent tissue signal.

3. What makes the 10mm square design effective for MRI imaging?

The square format provides a stable, consistent signal footprint that’s easy to identify during image review. Each marker contains an MRI-visible liquid engineered to mimic tissue signal, helping radiologists align external reference points with internal anatomy—especially useful in extremity, spine, or pediatric studies.

4. How should these MRI skin markers be applied and removed?

Each Liquimark marker includes a gentle adhesive backing for quick placement on clean, dry skin. They stay in place throughout the scan and remove cleanly without residue or irritation. The markers are single-use for infection control, and each box includes 40 markers for efficient clinical use.

5. What size options are available, and how do I choose the right one?

Liquimark MRI Skin Markers come in several round, square, and tube sizes—from 3mm to 30mm—to match different imaging needs. The 10mm square version is ideal when you need a moderate-size, clearly visible reference point for orthopedic or pediatric exams, balancing visibility with precision.
