MR Unsafe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When should a two-sided “Magnet Always On” light be used instead of a single-sided warning sign?

A two-sided light is ideal for hallways, shared corridors, and any MRI entry point where people approach from both directions. The dual illumination ensures the warning is visible no matter which way staff or visitors are coming from. Facilities often install this version at the main doorway into Zones III or IV so the magnet-on status is impossible to miss, even in busy traffic areas.

2. Does the two-sided light stay on during power outages or electrical transitions?

Yes. The fixture is hardwired for continuous operation and includes an integrated battery backup that keeps the light illuminated during outages or power fluctuations. Combined with long-life LEDs rated for roughly 25,000 hours, it’s built for MRI environments where safety warnings must remain visible at all times.

3. What are the mounting options, and does the compact size work in tight MRI suite layouts?

The light can be installed as a ceiling-mounted, two-sided fixture or used as a single-sided wall-mount if your space requires it. At 7.5" × 12" × 2", the design fits easily above doorways, in narrow hallways, and in low-clearance areas. It’s not intended for use inside magnet-exposed zones, but it’s an excellent placement option for entrances to restricted MRI areas where visibility from multiple angles is essential.
