MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is this 22-inch MRI wheelchair fully MR Conditional for use around a 3T scanner?

Yes. This model is MR Conditional to 3 Tesla, so it’s built from non-magnetic components and can be used safely in MRI Zones II–IV when following normal MR Conditional workflow. Most facilities park it right outside the bore for table transfers because it doesn’t create magnetic pull or signal issues.

2. Why would a facility choose a 22-inch MRI wheelchair instead of the standard 18" or 20" sizes?

The 22" width hits the sweet spot for patients who need more room than a standard chair but don’t require a full bariatric frame. MRI teams that see a mix of orthopedic, neurology, or sedation cases often choose the 22" as their “universal fit” chair because it improves comfort and reduces transfer struggles without taking up much more hallway space.

3. How do the flip-up arms and removable footrests help with lateral transfers onto the MRI table?

Flip-up arms give techs a clean, open side for sliding a patient from the wheelchair to the table pad—especially useful when you’re working with post-contrast, post-sedation, or limited-mobility patients. Removable footrests cut down on tripping hazards and make stand-and-pivot transfers easier for both staff and patients.

4. What’s the real weight capacity of this MRI transport chair, and is it durable enough for daily use?

This model supports up to 350 pounds, which covers most adult patients comfortably. It’s built for continuous use in busy MRI units, with a 5-year frame warranty and 1-year coverage on upholstery and metal components. Facilities that cycle multiple patients per hour rely on it because it holds up to constant disinfecting and routine transport.

5. What should we expect for cleaning, disinfecting, and daily upkeep in an MRI environment?

The 22" MRI wheelchair tolerates standard hospital disinfectants, so you can wipe it down between patients without worrying about wear on the frame or upholstery. For upkeep, techs usually check the arm hinges, wheel bearings, and footrest mounts during weekly equipment rounds. There’s no MRI-specific maintenance required—just typical transport-chair checks.
