MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the 24-inch MRI wheelchair fully MR Conditional for use near a 3T magnet?

Yes. This model is MR Conditional for use in 3T MRI environments. It’s built from non-magnetic components and marked clearly for quick identification, so techs can safely bring it into Zones II–IV. Many facilities use it right up to the bore for table transfers because it stays stable and doesn’t create pull or imaging interference.

2. Why do MRI departments choose a 24-inch wide wheelchair instead of a standard size?

The 24" seat gives you extra width for comfort and stability, especially for patients who don’t fit comfortably in an 18" or 20" chair but don’t require a full bariatric model. MRI teams that see heavier, post-op, or limited-mobility patients often pick the 24" as their primary “comfort fit” wheelchair because it reduces transfer difficulty and patient anxiety.

3. How do the flip-up arms and removable footrests help with MRI table transfers?

Flip-up arms open the entire side of the chair, which makes lateral slide transfers much smoother—especially when you’re working with patients who can’t stand safely. The removable footrests clear the front so techs can bring the patient right up to the table without awkward angles or tripping hazards. It’s a setup MRI staff appreciate when throughput is tight.

4. What weight capacity does this MRI transport chair support, and is it durable enough for daily use?

The 24-inch model supports up to 350 pounds, giving you a sturdy, mid-range solution between standard and bariatric frames. The chair is built for high-volume MRI units and comes with a 5-year frame warranty plus 1-year coverage on upholstery and metal components—so it holds up well to constant cleaning and frequent turnover.

5. What should we know about cleaning and disinfecting this MRI wheelchair between patients?

It’s designed to work with the common disinfectants used in radiology and hospital settings. The upholstery and frame tolerate routine wipe-downs without wearing prematurely. Most departments just add it to their normal end-of-day equipment check—confirming the arm hinges, wheel locks, and footrest mounts are operating smoothly. No MRI-specific maintenance is required.
