MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Narrow Seven Drawer Emergency Cart MR Conditional for use in MRI environments?

Yes. This cart is MR Conditional and has been tested to 3 Tesla by an independent authority to verify safety under magnetic field conditions typical of clinical MRI suites. It meets the ASTM F2503 definition for MR Conditional equipment, meaning it can be used safely in MRI Zones III and IV under the specified field strength and conditions. The cart’s low-ferrous materials minimize magnetic attraction, making it a dependable choice for use near the magnet room.

What makes this emergency cart MRI-ready?

The cart is built entirely from low-ferrous, non-magnetic materials—including its ball-bearing drawer slides, powder-coated cabinet, and 5-inch sealed casters. It’s equipped with a breakaway locking system for quick access during code situations, and the antimicrobial plastic top with integrated push handles is both removable and easy to disinfect. Every component is designed to perform smoothly and safely in high-field MRI environments.

What’s the size, weight, and drawer layout of this model?

The cart measures 46 in H × 21.5 in W × 23.75 in D and weighs 85 lbs—a space-efficient fit for smaller MRI suites or tight corridors. Drawer configuration includes:

  • (1) 4-inch drawer
  • (2) 3.25-inch drawers
  • (2) 6.5-inch drawers
  • (1) 9.75-inch drawer

This seven-drawer setup provides organized, easy-to-reach storage for emergency meds, airway tools, and monitoring supplies while keeping everything secured yet accessible under pressure.

How does the breakaway lock system work, and why is it useful in MRI emergencies?

The breakaway lock uses disposable plastic seals that keep drawers closed and tamper-evident until needed. In an emergency, staff can instantly break the seal and access supplies—no keys or combinations required. The system includes a pack of 100 seals and optional multiple lock bars, making it ideal for fast-moving MRI code situations where time and visibility matter.

What are the warranty, assembly, and shipping details?

Each cart comes with a 12-year limited manufacturer’s warranty on the cabinet and a 1-year warranty on bought-out parts. It’s delivered fully assembled and ready to use right out of the box—no on-site setup required. Most stocked units ship within 48 business hours (Mon–Fri, PST) via UPS, FedEx, or freight. Returns are accepted within 30 days if approved and in original condition under MRI Med’s standard policy.
