MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does MR-Conditional mean for the Seven Drawer Emergency Cart?

This cart is MR-Conditional, meaning it’s been independently tested and certified for use in 3 Tesla MRI environments under specified conditions. It meets the ASTM F2503 definition for MR-Conditional devices and is built entirely from low-ferrous, non-magnetic materials. That allows it to operate safely near MRI systems without creating magnetic interference or projectile risks.

Can the MR-Conditional Seven Drawer Cart be kept inside the MRI suite during scanning?

Yes. The cart can remain in MRI Zones III and IV when positioned according to facility safety protocols. Its low-ferrous frame, sealed 5-inch casters, and non-magnetic drawer slides prevent magnetic attraction or vibration. Always confirm that the supplies stored inside are also MR-Conditional or non-magnetic before bringing the cart into the scanner room.

Why use an MR-Conditional emergency cart instead of a standard crash cart?

MRI suites require carts designed for magnetic environments. A standard crash cart can contain steel components that pose projectile hazards near the magnet. An MR-Conditional emergency cart eliminates that risk while keeping emergency supplies close to the patient. The breakaway lock system allows quick access during code situations, and the antimicrobial top and durable finish make it easy to clean and maintain in clinical use.

What are the size and drawer configurations for the MR-Conditional Seven Drawer Cart?

This cart measures 46 in H × 31.8 in W × 23.75 in D and weighs 110 lbs. It features seven drawers—one 4″, four 3.25″, one 6.5″, and one 9.75″—mounted on full-extension, low-ferrous ball-bearing slides. The pull-out shelf adds workspace when needed, while the narrow footprint and sealed casters make it easy to move through MRI suite corridors.

Where can I buy the MR-Conditional Seven Drawer Emergency Cart – Standard Package?

You can order directly from MRI Med, a U.S. manufacturer specializing in MR-Conditional and non-magnetic medical equipment. Each unit ships fully assembled, includes a 12-year limited warranty (1 year on bought-out parts), and typically ships within two business days for stocked items.
