MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

The Pediatric Noise Guard Headset is a vital accessory designed for effective noise reduction during MRI procedures, particularly for young patients. Specially engineered for use with MRI equipment, this headset significantly minimizes the high-decibel sounds generated by MRI scanners, promoting a more comfortable experience. Its lightweight and durable design, combined with soft compressible ear muffs, ensures a snug, secure, and comfortable fit. Additionally, the adjustable headband accommodates infants, children, and even small adults, making it versatile for a wide range of users undergoing imaging procedures. To meet ANSI compliance, the headset must be used alongside minimum 29dB earplugs.

Tailored to enhance the pediatric experience, this product is compatible with various MRI products and helps create a calmer, quieter environment for young patients. The headset’s thoughtful design prioritizes patient safety while reducing anxiety and discomfort during scans, elevating the overall quality of care in MRI facilities. Ideal for pediatric imaging, the Pediatric Noise Guard Headset is a practical solution for improving both usability and patient outcomes. Available with or without sound cord tubing.

Models:

  • HS-103: With tubing

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Pediatric Noise Guard Headset safe for use inside the MRI room?

Yes. The headset is classified as MR Safe, meaning it contains no magnetic or conductive materials and can be used safely in any MRI environment. It’s designed for use directly inside the scan room, even during imaging, without affecting magnet performance or image quality.

2. How much noise protection does this pediatric MRI headset provide?

When paired with minimum 29 dB earplugs, the Pediatric Noise Guard Headset significantly reduces MRI scanner noise to comfortable levels for children and infants. The combination meets ANSI hearing protection standards, helping shield sensitive ears from loud acoustic noise generated during scans.

3. Will the Pediatric Noise Guard Headset fit all pediatric patients?

Yes. Its adjustable headband and soft, compressible ear muffs ensure a snug, comfortable fit for a wide range of users — from infants and toddlers to small adults. The lightweight frame keeps it secure during long procedures without causing pressure or discomfort.

4. Can this pediatric MRI headset be used with our existing MRI sound system?

Yes. The headset is available in two models: one with integrated tubing for facilities using MRI Med or OEM sound systems, and one without tubing for pure noise protection. Both options maintain full MR safety compliance and integrate easily into standard pediatric MRI workflows.

5. How should the Pediatric Noise Guard Headset be cleaned and maintained between scans?

Use disposable MRI headphone covers — such as MRI Med’s SC-100 (white) or SC-103 (black) — to maintain hygiene between patients. The headset’s latex-free materials can also be wiped down using approved, non-abrasive hospital disinfectants safe for plastic and foam.
