MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

The Slimline Headset is a vital accessory designed to improve patient comfort and communication in MRI environments. Crafted for compatibility with modern MRI equipment, its slim profile ensures seamless integration with head coils and other MRI products, accommodating spatial limitations without sacrificing performance. Engineered with a focus on delivering clear audio transmission, the headset supports efficient patient communication, whether it’s for conveying instructions or playing music to create a relaxing environment during scans. Soft, compressible ear muffs provide enhanced comfort for long procedures, while the easy-fit design ensures a secure and adaptable fit for various users.

This innovative headset is built to meet the high standards of advanced MRI products while addressing safety and hygiene requirements. It is latex-free, making it suitable for patients with latex sensitivities, and it is compatible with large sanitary covers (model SC-100) for optimal hygiene. The male 2-prong adapter fits most MRI sound systems, offering universal compatibility for clinical use. While it does not meet the NRR 29dB rating for noise reduction, its exceptional sound quality guarantees clear communication in controlled settings. This advanced design highlights a commitment to precision, comfort, and reliability in MRI scanning environments. Available with or without sound cord tubing.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Slimline Headset safe to use inside the MRI room?

Yes. The Slimline Headset is MR Safe, meaning it contains no magnetic or conductive materials and poses no known hazards in any MRI environment. It can be used safely inside the scan room, even during active imaging, without risk of attraction or image interference.

2. What makes the Slimline Headset ideal for tight MRI setups or head coils?

Its low-profile design allows it to fit easily inside tight head coil openings where bulkier headsets can be uncomfortable or misaligned. The soft, compressible ear muffs adapt to different patient sizes, maintaining both comfort and acoustic performance throughout the scan.

3. Can this headset connect to our existing MRI sound system?

Yes. The Slimline Headset includes a standard male 2-prong adapter that works with most MRI Med and OEM sound systems. It’s available with or without sound cord tubing, giving facilities flexibility depending on whether they need full audio communication or simply noise control.

4. How should the Slimline Headset be cleaned between patients?

Use sanitary headset covers like MRI Med’s SC-100 (white) to maintain hygiene. After each use, wipe the headset’s latex-free surface with a mild, non-abrasive hospital disinfectant that’s safe for plastics and foams. Avoid soaking or harsh chemicals to preserve comfort padding and longevity.

5. How does the Slimline Headset compare to higher NRR models like the Noise Guard series?

The Slimline Headset focuses on patient comfort and clear communication rather than maximum noise blocking. It doesn’t meet the 29 dB NRR of Noise Guard models, but it excels in fit, coil compatibility, and lightweight usability, making it ideal for head coils and scans with limited space.
