MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can this Wet Floor Sign be safely used inside MRI suites?

Yes. The Wet Floor Sign is constructed entirely from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials, making it MR Safe for use in all MRI zones, including the scan room itself. It helps staff alert others to slip hazards without introducing any metallic components that could affect scanner safety.

2. Why is an MR Safe Wet Floor Sign important in an MRI environment?

MRI suites require strict control of ferromagnetic materials. Using a non-magnetic wet floor sign ensures compliance with facility safety standards while still maintaining clear, visible hazard communication. It allows housekeeping and MRI staff to manage spills and cleaning without removing equipment or compromising scan safety.

3. What materials and design features make this sign reliable for MRI use?

The sign is made from high-strength plastic that’s both lightweight and durable. Its folding A-frame design makes it easy to carry and store, while bold, high-contrast lettering ensures visibility from a distance. The material resists corrosion and can be cleaned with standard hospital-grade disinfectants.

4. How is the sign typically used and stored in MRI facilities?

It’s commonly used during routine cleaning, patient prep, or spill response to mark wet or recently mopped areas. When not in use, the sign folds flat for quick storage on MRI janitorial carts or custodial wall brackets, keeping it accessible but out of the way of workflow areas.

5. What are the dimensions and visibility features of the sign?

The sign measures 38 inches high by 12 inches wide, providing tall, easily visible hazard warnings even in large MRI suites. Its bright yellow color and clear “Wet Floor” text make it immediately noticeable to staff, patients, and visitors.
