MR Unsafe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MRI ACR Phantom Case used for?

The MRI ACR Phantom Case is designed to protect and transport MRI ACR Phantoms safely when not in use. Its rigid shell and custom-fitted foam interior keep the phantom secure during storage or travel, preventing cracks, dents, or misalignment that could affect calibration accuracy. It’s the easiest way to extend the life of your ACR phantom and maintain consistent QA performance over time.

Is the MRI ACR Phantom Case MR Safe or MR Unsafe?

This product is clearly labeled MR Unsafe under ASTM F2503. That means it contains ferromagnetic materials and must not be brought into the MRI scan room (Zone IV). It’s safe to use in Zones I–III for transport and storage but should remain outside the MRI magnet area at all times.

Which MRI ACR Phantoms fit inside this case?

The MRI ACR Phantom Case is built to fit Medium (PC-130) and Large (PC-137) Pro-MRI ACR Phantoms. Its precision-cut foam cradle holds the phantom securely in place to prevent movement or impact damage during handling. This fit ensures your phantom stays calibration-ready and properly aligned for accurate QA testing.

What materials make the MRI ACR Phantom Case durable for daily use?

The case features a rigid protective outer shell, custom foam interior, and heavy-duty latches and handle for easy portability. It’s lightweight yet impact-resistant, ideal for imaging centers that transport QA tools between scanners or locations. The durable design protects against moisture, dust, and accidental drops — ensuring long-term reliability.

How is the MRI ACR Phantom Case shipped and what should facilities know before ordering?

MRI Med ships most stocked items, including this case, within 48 business hours (Monday–Friday, PST). Each case measures 20″L × 15″W × 10″H and ships securely packed to prevent damage. An import tariff surcharge may apply at checkout. Returns are accepted within 30 days of shipment for unused items with prior approval, and any freight issues should be reported within 48 hours to MRI Med and the carrier.
