MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the MRI safety status of this arm board?

This arm board is MR Conditional, tested for safe use in MRI environments up to 3.0 Tesla. It’s built from non-magnetic materials with zero ferromagnetic content, making it suitable for use in and around the bore in hospital and imaging center settings. Like all MRI Med products engineered in California, USA, it follows current MRI safety standards and labeling practices.

2. Can the MRI arm board stay in the room during scanning?

Yes. The MRI Arm Board is designed for use inside the scan room and can remain in place during active imaging when properly positioned on the MRI table. It’s non-metallic and lightweight, so technologists in U.S. radiology departments and outpatient MRI centers can safely use it in Zones III and IV without risk of interference or attraction.

3. What materials is the MRI arm board made from?

Each board features a rigid non-magnetic base with a vinyl-covered foam pad for patient comfort. All materials are latex-free, non-conductive, and easy to disinfect using standard hospital cleaning agents. The smooth vinyl surface helps meet infection-control needs in busy U.S. imaging suites, where fast turnover and cleanability matter.

4. What are the dimensions and how does it fit on the MRI table?

The arm board measures 36” L × 6” W × 3” H, designed to fit most MRI tables used across U.S. hospitals, diagnostic centers, and outpatient imaging facilities. It offers stable arm support for patients of different sizes and can be repositioned quickly, helping technologists maintain efficient workflow and patient comfort.

5. How does this compare to other MRI positioning aids?

Compared to single-leg supports, wedges, or basic foam pads, the MRI Arm Board offers superior stability and patient comfort for longer scans. It delivers consistent positioning that reduces movement and improves image quality — a practical, professional-grade solution trusted by MRI departments nationwide. MRI Med’s U.S.-made design ensures reliability and easy integration with your existing positioning systems.
