MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does this breast support pad help improve positioning and image quality during MRI breast exams?

Facilities use this pad because it helps keep the patient stable and properly aligned on the breast coil, which reduces small shifts that can blur an image or force a repeat. The surface has enough structure to support the chest evenly, and the contour helps patients settle into position without discomfort. When patients stay relaxed and still, you get cleaner signal, fewer motion artifacts, and a faster workflow — especially helpful for longer contrast-enhanced breast MRI exams.

2. Is this support pad suitable for use in MRI Zones III and IV, and does it work with standard breast coils?

Yes. The pad is made from non-metallic, non-conductive materials, so it’s appropriate for use in MRI Zones III and IV and can remain in the room throughout positioning and scanning. It doesn’t interfere with RF fields or cause surface heating. The shape and size work with most dedicated breast coils and prone positioning systems, so buyers don’t have to worry about coil-specific fit issues. It’s widely used in both hospital radiology departments and breast imaging centers that run 1.5T and 3T systems.

3. What practical features matter most for high-volume breast MRI programs?

Buyers typically look for durability, cleanability, and patient comfort — and this pad checks all three. The coated surface wipes down easily between exams, which is important when you’re turning over patients quickly. It holds its shape over time, so technologists aren’t constantly adjusting or propping it up. And because it accommodates A through DD comfortably, you don’t need multiple pad sizes on hand. For centers doing a mix of screening and biopsy planning, it’s an easy way to keep positioning consistent day to day.
