MR Conditional What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes an MRI-certified H2O extinguisher different from a standard fire extinguisher?

Facilities choose this extinguisher because it’s built with non-magnetic materials and uses deionized water, which makes it safe to store and operate near MRI equipment. Traditional extinguishers often contain metal components or conductive agents that can be hazardous around high-field magnets. The fine-mist discharge gives you strong cooling without leaving corrosive residue, so you’re not risking damage to coils, electronics, or any sensitive imaging hardware. For MRI suites where equipment protection matters just as much as patient safety, this design is a much better match.

2. Can the MRI H2O extinguisher handle electrical or equipment-related fires in an imaging suite?

Yes—this extinguisher is rated for Class A and potential Class C hazards, which covers common risks in MRI environments such as burning materials, wiring insulation, and small electrical components. The deionized water agent is non-conductive, so it won’t introduce electrical hazards during discharge. It’s a practical choice for MRI rooms, control rooms, equipment corridors, and any area where you need fire suppression that won’t harm electronics or violate MRI safety requirements.

3. What features make this extinguisher a good fit for MRI departments and low-contamination areas?

Imaging teams like this model because it’s lightweight, easy to aim, and doesn’t require special training to use. The stainless-steel cylinder is free of crevices, coated in a clean white finish, and leaves no powder residue, which is ideal for spaces that need to stay dust-free. The fine-mist wand provides better operator control, and the all-metal valve is built for long-term reliability. Because it’s non-toxic and non-corrosive, it’s also safe around patients, staff, and sensitive imaging equipment—making it a dependable extinguisher for MRI suites, hospital corridors, and high-value work areas.
