MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes the MRI Coil Headset effective for patient comfort and noise control?

The MRI Coil Headset provides 29 dB of noise reduction, helping patients stay calm and still throughout the scan. Its lightweight, behind-the-ear design makes it easy to fit within head coils without adding pressure or bulk. The comfortable ear tips and ergonomic shape also help reduce patient motion, which contributes to cleaner, more consistent image quality during high-field MRI procedures.

2. Is this headset compatible with all MRI scanners and coil types?

Yes. The MRI Coil Headset is designed for universal compatibility across most MRI systems and coil configurations. It integrates smoothly with standard patient communication setups and can be used for both music playback and two-way technologist communication. This makes it a reliable choice for facilities running mixed platforms (1.5T, 3T, or specialty coils) where a consistent patient audio setup is needed.

3. How should the MRI Coil Headset be maintained for long-term use and hygiene?

Each headset includes 20 pairs of replacement ear tips, allowing quick swaps between patients for safe, hygienic operation. The headset can be cleaned with approved non-abrasive disinfectants, and additional ear tip packs (model HS-416) are available for restocking. Its durable, medical-grade materials hold up to repeated cleaning cycles, making it ideal for high-volume MRI suites.
