MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the gas-lift mechanism actually safe to use in a high-field MRI room?

Yes. The stool is MR-Conditional to 7T, and the gas-lift assembly is built from non-magnetic components specifically selected for MRI environments. That means it won’t create pull, torque, or interference near the magnet, making it appropriate for use in Zones III–IV when used under the stated conditions.

2. How well does this MRI stool hold up in a busy imaging center with constant movement?

The five-point caster base and durable vinyl seat are designed for high-traffic MRI suites. It rolls smoothly across typical MRI flooring, stays stable when technologists shift positions, and the vinyl cleans quickly between patients—ideal for fast-paced workflow and infection-control routines.

3. Is this a comfortable option for technologists during long scans or positioning work?

Most teams choose it for comfort as much as safety. The 4-inch cushion, smooth height adjustment (19–24"), and swivel base make it easy to maintain good body position during repetitive tasks like coil changes, patient prep, or long monitoring sessions at the bedside.
