MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the MRI 3 Mode Continuous Vacuum Regulator safe to use in the MRI suite?

Yes. This vacuum regulator is MR Conditional, designed and tested for safe operation in MRI environments up to 3 Tesla. It’s built from non-magnetic materials, allowing it to be used confidently in MRI Zones III and IV. The regulator maintains stable vacuum control without interfering with imaging systems, making it ideal for patient suction, drainage, or other continuous vacuum applications in MRI rooms where magnetic safety is critical.

2. What are the three operating modes on this MRI Conditional vacuum regulator?

The regulator features three selectable modes — typically Full Line, Regulated Continuous, and Off — giving MRI staff full control over suction levels depending on the procedure. The large, easy-grip adjustment knob allows precise vacuum tuning, even when wearing gloves. This flexibility supports a wide range of clinical uses, from gentle continuous suction to high-performance vacuum control during more demanding procedures. It’s designed to deliver consistent, responsive performance across all three settings.

3. Can this MRI vacuum regulator connect to existing wall outlets or vacuum systems?

Yes. The standard model (OX-134) comes equipped with an Ohmeda wall connection and Hose Barb patient connection, which are widely compatible with hospital and imaging suite vacuum systems. Other wall connection options are available upon request to fit your facility’s setup. The durable ABS housing and protected gauge make it a reliable choice for everyday use in MRI environments, while the 10-year warranty ensures long-term dependability and low maintenance costs.
