MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the 6ft ladder truly MR Conditional for use in a 3T MRI room?

Yes. This ladder is labeled MR Conditional for 3-Tesla environments, meaning it can be used safely in controlled MRI areas when following the specified conditions. It’s constructed from non-magnetic aluminum, so it won’t create magnetic attraction or interfere with imaging. Facilities use it for overhead adjustments, equipment access, and routine MRI suite maintenance without introducing ferromagnetic risk.

2. When would an MRI department choose a 6ft ladder over a shorter MRI ladder?

The 6ft height is ideal when staff need extended reach—adjusting ceiling-mounted cameras, servicing injector arms, managing cable drops, or accessing ventilation and lighting above the bore. It gives more working height than a 4ft or 5ft ladder while still being stable, lightweight, and easy to move between MRI rooms. The double-sided design helps techs work quickly without repositioning.

3. How well does the 6ft aluminum ladder hold up to daily cleaning and high-volume MRI workflows?

The frame is made from corrosion-resistant aluminum that handles frequent disinfecting and hard clinical flooring without degrading. It supports up to 375 lbs, making it strong enough for both staff and light equipment handling. Because it’s built for medical environments, it stays stable, cleans easily, and maintains long-term durability even with constant use around the magnet.
