MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the 9ft ladder approved for use in 3T MRI suites, and what makes it MR Conditional?

Yes. The 9ft ladder is labeled MR Conditional for use up to 3-Tesla, meaning it can be safely used in MRI Zones III and IV when operated under the stated conditions. It’s built from non-magnetic, heavy-duty aluminum, so it avoids ferromagnetic pull while providing the height needed for overhead work. Imaging teams rely on it for ceiling-level maintenance, injector arm access, and routine MRI room support without risking magnetic interference.

2. When would a 9ft ladder be necessary in an MRI environment?

A 9ft ladder is typically needed in MRI suites with taller ceilings, overhead cable runs, lighting grids, quench piping, and HVAC components positioned higher than the reach of standard ladders. Facilities use this size when they need safe, stable access to elevated areas without bringing in outside maintenance equipment that may contain magnetic parts. The double-sided design also lets staff work efficiently from either direction, which is especially helpful during service calls and room prep.

3. How durable is the ladder for daily clinical use, and can it handle frequent cleaning?

The ladder is built from corrosion-resistant, non-magnetic aluminum rated to support up to 375 lbs, giving staff a stable platform even when carrying tools or coil accessories. It holds up well to routine disinfecting agents commonly used in MRI suites and stays reliable through constant movement and daily use. The skid-resistant steps add another layer of safety for fast-paced imaging departments where floors may be frequently cleaned.
