MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the MRI safety status of the DU-O-VAC PLUS Complete Unit?

The DU-O-VAC PLUS Complete Unit is MR Conditional, tested and approved for safe operation in MRI environments up to 3 Tesla. It’s constructed from non-magnetic aluminum and precision components, allowing use in MRI Zones III and IV, including the scan room. The unit operates entirely on a 50 psi oxygen source, requiring no electricity or batteries—eliminating concerns about electromagnetic interference or power availability during imaging procedures.

2. How does the DU-O-VAC PLUS Complete Unit improve workflow in MRI suites?

This unit combines suction, oxygen delivery, and vacuum control in one integrated system, making it ideal for MRI crash carts and patient transport. It delivers 0–350 mmHg adjustable suction and includes dual check-valved 50 psi oxygen outlets to power devices like ventilators or flowmeters simultaneously. The built-in hydrophobic filter in the collection canister helps prevent contamination, while the included flowmeter and preset regulator simplify setup and daily operation. Together, these features reduce equipment swaps and streamline patient care inside the MRI suite.

3. What makes the DU-O-VAC PLUS Complete Unit a reliable long-term investment for MRI facilities?

Designed for heavy clinical use, this system features durable all-aluminum construction, impact-resistant canisters, and a non-electrical, low-maintenance design that minimizes service needs over time. Because it runs entirely on oxygen pressure, it provides continuous operation even in power outage situations—critical for emergency and transport use. The adjustable suction, precise oxygen control, and MR Conditional certification make it a dependable, future-proof addition to any facility focused on MRI workflow safety and efficiency.

4. Will this unit work with our existing MRI workflow and cleaning protocols?

Yes. It mounts easily, needs no electricity, and uses a hydrophobic-filter canister that cleans quickly with standard hospital disinfectants. The built-in flowmeter and wide suction range make it straightforward for both adult and pediatric MRI cases.

5. bCan this wall-mounted suction unit stay in the MRI room during adult airway or sedation cases?

Yes. The DU-O-VAC PLUS Adult Wall Unit is MRI Conditional for use up to 3T and operates entirely off a 50 psi oxygen source, so you can keep it in Zones III and IV during patient setup, sedation, or emergent suctioning. There’s no electrical power, batteries, or ferromagnetic components to interfere with imaging.
