MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does the handle improve safety when using this MRI platform step stool near the scanner?

The handle gives patients a solid, ergonomic point of support as they step up onto the 30" platform, which is especially helpful for those with balance issues or limited mobility. Because the stool is MR Conditional, the handle is built from non-magnetic materials, so it can be positioned in Zones II–III without affecting the magnet or creating safety concerns. Most facilities choose the handled version when they want steadier, more controlled access to the MRI table.

2. Is this MRI step stool strong enough for bariatric patients and high-volume imaging centers?

Yes. It’s engineered for heavy clinical use and supports up to 550 lb, making it suitable for a wide range of patients. The platform’s 30" x 12" surface gives users enough room to stand securely, and the textured top helps prevent slipping in socks or booties. Techs also appreciate that it stays stable and level even after years of daily disinfecting and repositioning.

3. Will the platform step stool with handle fit easily into a tight MRI suite layout?

Its compact footprint—30" wide, 12" deep, 8" high—makes it easy to place alongside most MRI tables without blocking coils, cables, or patient pathways. The 41" handle can be mounted on either the right or left side, so departments can configure it to match their room layout and workflow. It’s lightweight enough to move quickly, but sturdy enough to stay put once positioned.
