MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the MRI Conditional 50 PSI Oxygen Regulator with CGA 870 connection approved for MRI use?

Yes. This regulator is MR Conditional, tested for safe operation in MRI systems up to 3 Tesla. It’s made from non-magnetic brass, allowing it to be used safely in MRI Zones III and IV without creating magnetic attraction or image distortion. The pre-set 50 PSI output ensures consistent oxygen pressure, ideal for supporting patient monitoring or anesthesia workflows inside or near the scanner room.

2. What makes this MRI Conditional oxygen regulator different from standard CGA 870 regulators?

Standard regulators can include ferromagnetic components that pose a risk near MRI magnets. This one is engineered from MRI-safe brass materials and is factory-calibrated for a fixed 50 PSI output, eliminating pressure fluctuations during use. It also includes a DISS outlet, which allows seamless connection to MRI Med flowmeters, DU-O-VAC systems, or oxygen tubing. It’s built for facilities that need reliable oxygen control without compromising MRI suite safety or workflow efficiency.

3. Can this CGA 870 regulator be used with our existing small oxygen cylinders?

Yes. The CGA 870 fitting is the standard connection for small medical oxygen cylinders used across hospitals and imaging centers. This regulator pairs perfectly with MRI Med’s MR Conditional small aluminum cylinders, providing a complete, compliant oxygen delivery setup for MRI environments. It can also connect to compatible MRI-approved accessories, ensuring the entire gas system remains safe and functional during patient care.
