MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes the 18″ MRI step stool safe to use near a 3T magnet?

This stool is MR Conditional to 3T, which means it’s been tested for safe use under specific MRI conditions. Its stainless-steel construction contains no ferrous components that would be attracted toward the magnet, and its weight and footprint keep it stable when positioned in Zones II or III. Facilities often choose it because it gives staff and patients a sturdy boost without risking magnetic pull-force or interference during imaging.

2. Is an 18″ MRI step stool stable enough for patients who need extra support?

Yes. The 18" model has a wide 18" × 12" platform and a 500-lb weight capacity, which gives patients and technologists solid footing even during assisted transfers. Many MRI departments prefer this size because it’s large enough for stability but compact enough to fit beside the MRI table or in tight control-room spaces.

3. How well does this step stool hold up to daily disinfecting in the MRI suite?

The stainless-steel frame handles frequent wipe-downs with hospital-grade cleaners without corroding or loosening over time. It’s a good fit for high-traffic MRI areas where equipment gets cleaned between every patient. Most facilities simply perform a quick visual check and wipe, and the stool stays in service for years with almost no maintenance.
