MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the MRI CTL Coil Pad Kit used for?

This pad kit is designed specifically for GE 1.5T MRI systems to improve comfort and positioning within the CTL (cervical, thoracic, lumbar) coil setup. The two pads—one for the head and one for the torso—help stabilize patients and maintain consistent coil contact, reducing motion artifacts and ensuring sharper, more reliable imaging results.

2. Can these coil pads remain in the magnet bore during scanning?

Yes. Both pads are made entirely from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials and can safely remain in the MRI environment throughout active imaging. They’re engineered to perform without interfering with magnetic fields or image quality, supporting accurate scan results in the GE 1.5T system.

3. How should the MRI CTL Coil Pad Kit be cleaned and maintained?

The antimicrobial nylon covers are designed for easy disinfection between patients. Wipe them clean using standard hospital-grade cleaners—avoid bleach, which can damage nylon fibers. The sealed seams prevent fluid penetration, making the set durable and simple to maintain even in high-volume MRI centers.

4. Does this coil pad kit fit other MRI systems besides GE 1.5T?

This model is precision-fit for GE 1.5T MRI units. While some facilities use it with similar coil dimensions, for consistent performance and proper coil alignment it’s best matched to GE’s 1.5T design. MRI Med also offers coil pad kits tailored for other systems and field strengths if your facility operates multiple scanner types.

5. How durable are these MRI coil pads for everyday use?

Built from heat-sensitive viscoelastic foam and reinforced with strong nylon seams, these coil pads hold their shape even after repeated use and cleaning. The materials resist flattening, tearing, or absorbing fluids—so they stay supportive and clean through years of use, making them a dependable part of your MRI positioning toolkit.
