MR Safe What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the purpose of the MRI CTL Coil Pad Kit for Philips 1.5T systems?

This two-piece coil pad kit is designed to provide proper support and positioning for patients during spine imaging on Philips 1.5T MRI scanners. The pads help stabilize the head and torso within the CTL (cervical–thoracic–lumbar) coil, reducing patient movement and improving coil alignment. The result is clearer, more consistent image quality with greater patient comfort throughout the exam.

2. Can these coil pads stay inside the magnet bore during scanning?

Yes. The pads are constructed from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials that can safely remain in the MRI environment throughout active imaging. They will not interfere with the magnetic field or generate image artifacts, allowing technologists to position them confidently inside the bore during Philips 1.5T scans.

3. Are these coil pads specific to Philips systems, or can they fit others?

This kit is engineered for precise compatibility with Philips 1.5T MRI systems. While some facilities adapt similar pads for use with other coil setups, this model ensures the most accurate fit and optimal performance on Philips scanners. MRI Med also manufactures coil pad kits designed for GE and Siemens MRI systems to meet each platform’s specifications.

4. How should the MRI CTL Coil Pad Kit be cleaned and cared for?

The antimicrobial nylon cover is designed for easy cleaning with standard hospital disinfectants (excluding bleach). The sealed seams prevent fluid penetration, and the smooth surface allows quick turnaround between patients. Routine cleaning helps preserve both hygiene and the foam’s structural integrity, even with frequent use in busy imaging environments.

5. How durable are the coil pads for long-term use in a clinical setting?

The viscoelastic foam core conforms to the patient while retaining its shape after repeated use. Reinforced nylon seams protect against splitting and tearing, even after years of cleaning and compression. Many imaging centers rely on these pads daily for high throughput MRI work, making them a dependable, long-term addition to their Philips coil setup.
