MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why are disposable eyeshades useful for patient comfort in MRI?

Disposable eyeshades help reduce anxiety and light sensitivity for patients during scans, especially in closed-bore MRI systems where confined spaces can cause discomfort. By blocking light and creating a sense of calm, they make it easier for patients to stay still, which supports better image quality and fewer repeat sequences. Many facilities use them as part of standard prep for patients who experience claustrophobia or restlessness.

2. Are MRI Disposable Eyeshades safe for use in the MRI room during active scans?

Yes. These eyeshades are made entirely from non-metallic, MRI-compatible materials, meaning they can safely remain on the patient inside the scanner. The soft cloth interior and vinyl exterior are designed to be gentle on the skin and free from components that could interfere with imaging, making them ideal for routine use across 1.5T and 3T MRI environments.

3. How can facilities maintain hygiene and efficiency with disposable eyeshades?

Each eyeshade is individually wrapped and single-use, helping imaging teams meet strict infection-control standards. With 100 per box, they’re easy to stock near prep areas or patient bays for quick turnover between exams. The disposable design eliminates cleaning time and cross-contamination risk, supporting faster patient throughput and consistent hygiene compliance.
