MR Conditional What does this mean?
MR Safe

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do MRI departments use dedicated changing and storage stations?

MRI facilities often require patients, visitors, and staff to remove personal belongings and properly organize PPE before entering restricted MRI areas. Dedicated changing stations help support safer screening workflows by creating a clear, organized location for apparel, masks, gloves, and personal item management.

What areas of a healthcare facility typically use MRI entry stations?

These stations are commonly placed near MRI suite entrances, patient changing areas, prep spaces, and Zone II or Zone III transition points where staff need quick access to PPE and organized storage before entering more restricted MRI environments.

How does an organized entry station help MRI workflow and compliance?

A centralized storage and preparation area helps reduce clutter, improve traffic flow, and support more consistent MRI safety procedures. It also gives staff and patients a designated place to manage belongings and PPE before entering controlled areas, helping departments maintain cleaner and more organized entry processes.
