MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the MRI Floor Danger Sign appropriate for marking restricted magnet zones near the MRI room?

Yes. This floor sign is designed specifically for identifying high-risk magnetic field areas, including restricted access points leading into Zones III and IV. Its large 24" × 42" footprint, high-visibility graphics, and durable laminate help staff, transport teams, and visitors recognize magnet hazards before crossing the threshold. Facilities often place it directly in front of the MRI room door as part of their overall safety and compliance strategy.

2. How well does this MRI safety floor sign hold up in a busy hospital or imaging center?

The sign is built from a scratch-resistant, non-slip laminated surface with strong adhesive backing. It’s made for high-traffic clinical environments, where gurneys, wheelchairs, and daily foot traffic can wear down standard decals. The material resists peeling and scuffing, so you’re not constantly replacing worn floor signs—something safety officers appreciate during audits.

3. What type of flooring works best with the MRI Floor Danger Sign, and is it easy to install?

It’s designed for smooth, clean surfaces such as sealed tile, polished concrete, or epoxy floors commonly used outside MRI suites. Installation is simple: peel, place, and press firmly for full adhesion. Once applied, the aggressive adhesive keeps the sign anchored, helping ensure consistent safety messaging right where people need it most.
