MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why choose a cordless headset for MRI patient hearing protection?

A cordless headset simplifies setup and improves safety inside the MRI room by eliminating cables that can interfere with equipment or become entangled during positioning. The Heavy Duty Noise Guard model provides 29 dB of noise reduction, helping protect patients from high acoustic noise levels during scans while keeping the environment clutter-free. It’s especially useful in high-field systems or suites where technologists need fast turnaround between exams.

2. How durable is the Heavy Duty Noise Guard Headset for repeated clinical use?

This headset is engineered for long-term reliability in hospital and imaging center settings, built from non-magnetic, medical-grade materials that stand up to daily cleaning and constant use. Its heavy-duty construction maintains comfort and performance over time, making it a smart choice for facilities with high patient volume or extended scan sessions.

3. What’s the best way to clean and maintain the headset between patients?

After each procedure, simply wipe the headset with an approved non-abrasive disinfectant and replace the SC-100 or SC-103 sanitary covers for a fresh, hygienic setup. The smooth finish allows for quick cleaning without trapping residue, and the cordless design means there are no cables or connectors to sanitize separately, saving staff time while maintaining infection control standards.
