MR Conditional What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Designed to be MR Conditional up to 3T, this non-magnetic, UL and CE-approved battery ensures optimal performance during diagnostic procedures. Each charge delivers 7-8 hours of consistent illumination, providing uninterrupted support for extended medical examinations. Featuring a quick-release system, swapping batteries is seamless, allowing for minimal downtime during operations.

To maximize efficiency, additional batteries can be purchased, ensuring a fully charged replacement is always on hand. The integrated battery level indicator on the transformer gives a clear low-battery warning, turning red 15-20 minutes before full depletion. With its precise design and robust functionality, this product elevates MRI products by combining advanced technology with ease of use in demanding medical environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the MRI safety rating for the replacement battery, and can it be used inside the MRI room during scanning?

The battery is MR Conditional up to 3 Tesla, so it can be used inside the MRI room when the conditions listed on its labeling are followed. Its non-magnetic design and stable power output make it appropriate for use in Zones III and IV with the MRI LED Mobile Exam Light. Facilities that rely on mobile lighting during patient prep or interventional procedures often keep additional batteries on hand so the light can remain in the room without interruption.

2. How long does the MRI exam light battery last on a full charge, and how much warning does it give before running out?

A full charge provides about 7–8 hours of consistent illumination, which is enough to get through most scan days or extended procedures. The transformer includes a built-in battery level indicator that turns red 15–20 minutes before depletion, giving staff time to swap batteries without losing lighting. Its quick-release design keeps downtime low, which is especially helpful in emergency or high-volume MRI environments.

3. Is this battery easy to swap, and is it worth ordering extra batteries for busy MRI suites?

Yes — the battery uses a quick-release system that lets you change it out in seconds, even in tight MRI rooms where you can’t afford extra clutter. Many imaging centers purchase one or two additional batteries so a fully charged backup is always ready, especially if the mobile light is used throughout the day for airway checks, line placement, or patient positioning. At only 5 lbs, the battery is easy to handle and doesn’t add unnecessary weight to the light.
