MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Designed to improve the patient experience, these pads create a dependable barrier between the individual and MRI equipment, reducing discomfort and ensuring precise positioning throughout the scan. Engineered to shield patients from the increased temperature generated by the powerful magnets of MR scanners, these pads are an essential addition to modern imaging environments. Each set includes two pads, crafted to deliver both safety and peace of mind.

Constructed from top-quality, non-conductive materials, our MRI Patient Protection Pads are designed for compatibility with a wide array of MRI products. Their durability and functionality support healthcare facilities in maintaining operational efficiency and upholding patient satisfaction. Whether upgrading your MRI equipment lineup or seeking solutions for enhanced imaging procedures, these protection pads are a vital component for reliable and consistent performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do the large MRI Patient Protection Pads help prevent patient discomfort or burns during scans?

These pads create a consistent, non-conductive barrier between the patient and the bore wall, table surfaces, or any areas that tend to warm during longer studies. Techs often use the large pads along the patient’s sides or legs to keep skin from resting directly against equipment, which helps reduce heat transfer and lowers the chance of contact-related injuries. The added length is especially useful when scanning bariatric patients or when full-body stability is needed.

2. Are the large protection pads durable enough for daily MRI use and frequent disinfecting?

Yes. The antimicrobial nylon cover is built for routine cleaning with standard hospital-grade disinfectants, and it resists stains and moisture. The foam core stays stable over time, even in high-volume MRI suites where pads get used throughout the day. Because each pad slides smoothly along the bore, staff don’t have to fight with shifting or bunching material during setups.

3. When should MRI teams choose the large pads over smaller protection pads?

Large pads are the best fit when you need broad coverage—for example, along the full torso, thighs, or both arms during body or spine scans. They’re also ideal when you want a single pad to protect a long contact area rather than placing several shorter pads. Departments often reach for the large size when working with patients who are tall, have limited mobility, or need extra help maintaining a neutral, comfortable position throughout the exam.
