MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

MRI Patient Protection Pads are indispensable accessories designed to enhance patient comfort and safety during MRI procedures. Crafted with high-quality, durable materials, these pads serve as a protective barrier between patients and MRI equipment, minimizing the risk of pressure points or discomfort during prolonged imaging sessions. Their compact size ensures easy integration with a wide range of MRI products, making them a practical solution for hospitals, imaging centers, and research facilities. By reducing physical strain and providing effective cushioning, these pads contribute to a more positive patient experience while maintaining the overall efficiency of MRI operations.

Engineered to address the unique challenges of MRI environments, these pads also help shield patients from the increased temperatures generated by the powerful magnets within MRI equipment. Each set includes two pads, making them a versatile addition to your collection of MRI products. Whether used for routine imaging or advanced research purposes, MRI Patient Protection Pads are a valuable investment in optimizing patient care and operational reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the best ways to use the small MRI Patient Protection Pads during scans?

Small pads are great for targeted protection—places where patients tend to make contact with the bore wall or hardware, like the elbows, wrists, or hips. Their compact design slides easily into tight spaces without disrupting coil placement or patient positioning. Techs often rely on them during brain, spine, and extremity studies where minor pressure points can turn into discomfort or skin irritation during longer scans.

2. How do these small pads help manage heat and reduce thermal risk in MRI environments?

The antimicrobial nylon surface and non-conductive core create a stable insulating barrier between the patient and any warm or cold surfaces inside the bore. This helps limit temperature transfer from MRI hardware—especially during longer sequences or when the patient naturally shifts toward the bore wall. The smaller size makes them ideal for preventing localized “hot spots” that can occur around bony areas or points where patients rest heavily.

3. How do the small pads hold up in busy MRI suites with daily cleaning and high turnover?

They’re built for heavy rotation. The pads resist stains and fluids, tolerate routine disinfecting with hospital-grade products, and hold their shape even after repeated compressions. Because the surface has low-shear properties, they minimize friction against the patient while still sliding smoothly along the bore when you need to reposition them quickly. Most departments keep several small sets on hand because they’re versatile, durable, and easy to deploy during back-to-back cases.
