MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Discover enhanced patient comfort with MRIMED's MRI Safe Adjustable Prism Glasses. Specially engineered for use in MRI environments, these fully adjustable prism glasses allow users to see toward their feet while lying flat, helping to reduce the feelings of claustrophobia often associated with MRI scans. Patients can view outside the MRI bore, which eases anxiety and increases scanning throughput for MRI centers. The glasses are widely used in medical imaging equipment settings, benefiting both MRI facilities and hospitals nationwide.

Ideal for those confined to a bed, experiencing cervical issues, or with head/neck restraints, these prism glasses expand viewing options without the need to move the neck. They are perfect for watching television, reading, or even for use in non-medical settings like traveling on airplanes or for musicians. Each pair comes with a soft carrying case and cleaning cloth. MR Conditional to 3 Tesla, they are a leading choice among MRI products for maximizing patient comfort and clinical efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do adjustable prism glasses help patients during MRI scans?

These prism glasses let patients see outside the MRI bore while lying flat, which helps reduce claustrophobia and restlessness during scans. By redirecting the line of sight toward the feet, patients can focus on a more open view instead of the scanner tunnel. This simple visual shift often makes exams smoother and helps technologists complete scans with fewer interruptions or motion artifacts.

2. Are the adjustable prism glasses suitable for all MRI systems and field strengths?

Yes. These glasses are labeled MR Conditional up to 3 Tesla, meaning they can safely be used within that MRI environment when following standard operating conditions. They’re constructed entirely from non-magnetic, non-conductive materials, so they can stay in place throughout the scan. The adjustable frame design fits most head sizes and coil configurations, making it an easy addition for both hospital and outpatient imaging suites.

3. How should MRI facilities clean and maintain prism glasses between patients?

The glasses can be wiped down with non-abrasive disinfectant wipes approved for use on medical plastics and optical surfaces. Each pair includes a soft cleaning cloth and protective case, which helps extend their lifespan and keep the prisms clear. Because they’re adjustable and durable, many MRI departments assign one pair per scanner or use disposable covers for added hygiene control in high-volume settings.
