MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When would an MRI suite choose a single-piece 7' stretcher strap instead of a loop-lock style?

Many departments prefer the single-piece design when they want something fast, predictable, and impossible to “mis-thread” during urgent transfers. With no separate sections to line up, techs can secure patients on a backboard or stretcher in one motion — helpful for larger patients, trauma cases, or sedated studies where staff don’t want to juggle multiple strap components. The 7-foot length also gives you enough reach for wider boards or patients who need extra stabilization, so you’re not stretching a shorter strap to its limit.

2. Is this 7' one-piece strap safe to use all the way into Zone IV and near the bore?

Yes. The strap is made entirely from non-metallic materials, so it won’t create magnetic attraction or interfere with imaging. This makes it a reliable choice for backboards that routinely travel from triage or holding directly into Zone IV. Techs like that the buckle stays stable during tightening and doesn’t introduce artifact risk, which is important when you're working close to the bore on neuro, trauma, or sedation cases.

3. How well does this single-piece strap handle constant cleaning and high patient turnover?

The webbing is impervious and holds up to the aggressive cleaning routines MRI rooms require. It doesn’t absorb fluids, doesn’t warp after repeated disinfectant exposure, and stays flexible over time — which helps during tight immobilizations where you need smooth, even tension. Because it’s one continuous piece, there are fewer seams and junctions to trap moisture or debris, making it easier for staff to wipe down quickly between patients. For facilities standardizing their MRI backboard accessories, this durability is a big reason they choose the single-piece design.
