MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes this mop handle MRI safe?

The Mop Handle is constructed entirely from fiberglass and non-magnetic components, which means it poses no known hazards in MRI environments. Its design prevents magnetic interference and makes it safe for use inside the MRI suite, including near the bore, without affecting imaging or equipment function.

2. Where can this mop handle be used in an MRI facility?

It’s suitable for all MRI zones, including the scanner room (Zone IV). Staff can safely use it during daily cleaning or between patient scans without needing to remove it from the area. It’s designed to help maintain hygiene and cleanliness in spaces that demand strict safety and contamination control.

3. What are the key materials and features that support MRI use?

This handle is made from lightweight fiberglass with a plastic wide-opening head and an adjustable roller knob that securely fits most mop heads. Its bright orange finish enhances visibility in clinical areas, while the ergonomic grip helps reduce fatigue during long cleaning tasks.

4. Is it compatible with standard mop heads and cleaning systems?

Yes. The MRI Safe Mop Handle fits most standard mop heads, including MRI Med’s JS-113 Replacement Mop Head. Its universal attachment system allows it to integrate seamlessly into existing janitorial setups used across MRI, surgical, and diagnostic environments.

5. How should this mop handle be cleaned and maintained?

The handle’s fiberglass construction resists corrosion and can be safely cleaned with hospital-grade disinfectants or mild detergents. Regularly wipe down after each use to prevent residue buildup, and inspect the roller knob and head connection periodically to ensure secure performance.
