MR Safe What does this mean?

MR Safe – an item that poses no known hazards in all MRI environments. Using the terminology, “MR Safe” items are non-conducting, non-metallic, and non-magnetic items such as a plastic Petri dish. An item may be determined to be MR Safe by providing a scientifically based rationale rather than test data.

MR Conditional – an item that has been demonstrated to pose no known hazards in a specified MR environment with specified conditions of use. “Field” conditions that define the MR environment include static magnetic field strength, spatial gradient magnetic field, dB/dt (time rate of change of the magnetic field), radio frequency (RF) fields, and specific absorption rate (SAR). Additional conditions, including specific configurations of the item (e.g., the routing of leads used for a neurostimulation system), may be required.

MR Unsafe – An item that is known to pose hazards in all MRI environments. MR Unsafe items include magnetic items such as a pair of ferromagnetic scissors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are these 37 SNR MRI ear plugs strong enough for high-noise 1.5T and 3T MRI scanners?

These plugs deliver 37 SNR / 32 NRR, which puts them in the top tier for disposable hearing protection used in MRI suites. They’re a solid choice for sequences with sharp gradient noise or long scan times, and many facilities pair them with an MRI-approved headset when they want layered protection. The foam creates a tight acoustic seal without introducing any materials that interfere with imaging or safety requirements.

2. Are the ear plugs comfortable for sensitive patients, especially during long MRI studies?

Yes. The foam softens quickly and conforms to the ear canal, which helps patients tolerate them during lengthy scans. They’re latex-free, so they’re also a safe pick for patients with skin sensitivities or allergy concerns. Because they’re paired and individually bagged, techs can hand them out quickly without sorting or handling loose foam pieces — helpful when you’re managing a busy schedule.

3. How does the 500-pair bulk pack support workflow and infection control in MRI centers?

The bulk box includes 500 individually paired sets, which keeps workflow smooth for high-volume departments. Since the plugs are fully disposable, they eliminate the cleaning steps required with reusable protection and support consistent infection-control standards. Most sites keep a box at patient prep stations or use them with standard earplug dispensers so techs can load patients efficiently without slowing down the schedule.
